5 Best Spring Cleaning Tips to Declutter Your Home (Sassy, Simple & Effective)

Hey there mamas!

I know, it’s not officially spring yet—but come on now, don’t you feel it coming? Like a luminous promise in the air… which, by the way, is still completely freezing. This morning in Quebec, we hit a glorious –12°C “feels like” temperature, and honestly, I think my eyelashes developed their own micro‑icicles.

But despite the cold, spring has begun whispering its arrival: in the songbirds warming up their timid little concerts, in the sun that insists on shining a tiny bit brighter each day, and in the noble, persistent chunks of snow outside that are finally—finally!—starting to shrink.

And of course, the quickest way to bring spring a little closer inside your home is by diving head‑first into a good old spring cleaning and decluttering session. So sleeves up, mamas—let’s do this. And because I know from painful personal experience how overwhelming this seasonal purge can be, here are my five best tips to motivate us, organize us, and keep us from sobbing into our mop buckets!

The first tip is simple: start small—comically small. If you tell yourself that you’re going to declutter the entire house today, the only thing you’ll actually accomplish is collapsing dramatically onto the floor surrounded by expired coupons, mismatched socks, and that mysterious Tupperware lid whose container vanished in 2017. Instead, conquer something tiny: a drawer, a shelf, the top of your nightstand, or that cursed cabinet under the sink that has personally wronged all of us. The smaller the task, the faster the win—and tiny wins are the spark plugs of motivation.

Next up: make it fun, and yes, I said fun. Blast a playlist that transforms you into the Beyoncé of domestic life. Dance with the broom, dramatically lip‑sync into a sponge, pretend your vacuum is your backup dancer—whatever gets you moving. Cleaning doesn’t have to feel like a punishment from the universe; with the right vibe, it becomes an oddly delightful mini‑workout that doesn’t require leggings or an overpriced gym membership.

Third, embrace the sacred ritual of the three piles: keep, donate, and bye bye. Be ruthlessly honest with yourself. If you haven’t used it, worn it, looked at it, or emotionally connected with it in years, it’s probably not your soulmate. Think of it as decluttering for the soul. The “bye bye” pile is surprisingly therapeutic—like telling your clutter, lovingly but firmly, that it’s time to follow its dreams… somewhere far away.

Once you’ve started gaining traction, choose a showpiece zone—a single area of your home that you’ll make gorgeously, resplendently clean. This could be the kitchen counter, the entryway, the bathroom vanity, or that plant corner where your green babies pretend they’re thriving. When one area looks amazing, the rest of the house starts whispering, “Um… should we also get our life together?” It creates a domino effect of motivation, and suddenly the whole project feels doable.

And finally: reward yourself like the queen you are. Cleaning and decluttering is emotional labor, physical labor, and spiritual cleansing all at once—so yes, you deserve a prize at the end. Treat yourself to a fancy latte, a new candle, a long hot shower, a cozy movie, or a sacred moment of sitting still and admiring your freshly reclaimed kingdom. Rewards turn chores into rituals, and rituals are what make us show up again and again—without feeling like martyrs.

So, dear mama, even if spring is technically still hiding behind a few stubborn snowbanks, you can absolutely summon its energy inside your home with a little sparkle, a little sass, and a whole lot of “we’ve got this.” With these five tips, you’ll glide through your spring cleaning like the unstoppable, witty wonder woman you truly are!

Love, Katerina
