Happy New Year friends!!!
Ready to start the New Year fresh and rejuvenated? Oh, the magic of January! That crisp feeling of possibility, the smell of planners and new pens, and the collective optimism that this year - this one - will be different. Cue the infamous resolutions: eat better, exercise more, meditate daily, learn Mandarin, and maybe finally figure out how to fold a fitted sheet without crying.
It’s the ideal season for big promises: new year, fresh start, endless Pinterest boards of “morning routines that will change your life.” And honestly, I love the vibe. It’s inspiring, hopeful, and full of energy. But let’s be real - what happens after the first two weeks of January? Well… that’s a conversation for another post (spoiler: it involves abandoned gym memberships and a lot of croissants).
Today, I want to keep things optimistic and share a small ritual that has been a game-changer for me. It’s simple, soulful, and surprisingly effective. No apps, no subscriptions, no color-coded spreadsheets. Just you, a piece of paper, and a little imagination.

The Ritual: 10 Wishes for the New Year
Here’s how it works: On New Year’s Eve or the very first day of January, grab a piece of paper and write down your 10 biggest wishes for the year ahead. These can be concrete goals - like finishing that novel or finally booking that trip to Santorini - or heartfelt wishes, like good health for your family or more laughter in your days. Personally, I do a mix of both because, let’s face it, life is a cocktail of things we can control and things we absolutely cannot.
Now, here’s the twist: write them down as if they’ve already happened. Express gratitude for each one like it’s a done deal. For example:“I’m so grateful for the amazing family trip we had this summer.”“I’m thankful for feeling strong and healthy every day.”
Why? Because gratitude is powerful. It shifts your mindset from “I hope” to “I have,” and that subtle change can work wonders on your subconscious.
Add a Dash of Visualization
Once you’ve written your list, spend 2–3 minutes on each wish. Close your eyes and imagine it vividly. Feel the joy, the relief, the excitement as if it’s already real. Picture yourself on that beach, laughing with your kids, or signing the contract for that dream job. Let your senses join the party - hear the waves, smell the sunscreen, taste the victory coffee.
Then, read your list one more time. Let it sink in. Fold the paper and tuck it somewhere safe - I slip mine into my agenda. And here’s the fun part: don’t look at it until next December. When the year ends, open it, smile, and prepare your next list.
Does It Actually Work? Spoiler: Yes
I’ve been doing this for years, and every time I open that folded paper, I’m amazed. Most of my wishes? Done. The ones that didn’t happen? Well, I’ve learned something important:
Some were things I thought I wanted but didn’t truly (self-awareness is a lifelong project, right?).
Others didn’t happen because life had a better plan. A door closed, but a window opened with a view I never imagined.
This ritual isn’t magic—it’s mindset. It helps you focus on what matters, stay intentional, and invite good things into your life. Plus, it’s like a time capsule of who you were a year ago. And if there’s one truth in this post, it’s this: you are not the same person you were last January. We change constantly, and that’s beautiful. That’s life. That’s creation.
Why You Should Try It
It takes 20 minutes, zero money, and no Wi-Fi. It’s a gentle way to program your mind for a fulfilling year ahead. And honestly? It’s fun. A little ritual that feels sacred without being complicated. A moment to pause, dream, and connect with yourself before the whirlwind of life resumes.
So, grab that paper. Write your 10 wishes. Visualize. Fold. Hide. And let the year surprise you.
Here’s to a New Year full of joy, growth, and maybe - just maybe - finally mastering that fitted sheet!
Love, Katerina
