The Secret to Fluffy Homemade Donuts You Didn't Know You Needed

Hello my friends!

How are you all doing today? I'm absolutely thrilled to share with you my super easy recipe for delicious, fluffy donuts that are sure to become a household favorite!

After many trials and not-so-successful attempts, I finally arrived at this great version. I experimented with several different recipes over time, tweaking and adjusting until I discovered what I believe is the golden ratio of ingredients. The result? Incredibly fluffy donuts with minimal effort!

I’m so proud of how this recipe turned out, and I can’t wait for you to try it and fall in love with it just like I did!

You’ll need just a few simple ingredients—most of which you probably already have at home:

  • 1 cup warm milk

  • 2⅓ cups all-purpose flour

  • 3 tablespoons sugar

  • 3 tablespoons melted butter

  • 10 grams yeast

  • A few drops of vanilla extract (optional, but adds a lovely aroma)

Let’s Get Started!

Mix the wet ingredients:

In a mixer bowl, combine the warm milk, melted butter, sugar, and yeast. Mix for about a minute until everything is well blended. If you like, add a few drops of vanilla extract—it’s optional, but it gives a delightful fragrance.

Add the flour:

Gradually add the flour while mixing on medium speed. Continue until the dough is smooth and all the flour is fully incorporated. That’s it—your dough is ready!

Let it rise:

Cover the bowl with a clean towel and let the dough rest at room temperature. The longer you let it rise, the more the yeast will work its magic. I usually leave it for about 3 hours, and by then, the dough has tripled in size and becomes incredibly soft and chewy.

Shape the donuts:

Once the dough has risen, lightly flour your work surface and roll out the dough. Use a glass to cut out circles. If you want classic ring donuts, use a bottle cap or similar object to cut out the centers.

Frying time:

Heat some oil in a deep pan—avoid using olive oil, as it’s not ideal for frying sweets. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the donuts in and fry them for just a few seconds on each side, until they turn a beautiful golden brown.

⚠️ Tip: Frying happens quickly, so keep a close eye on them to avoid burning!

That’s it! Ridiculously easy, right?

Now comes the fun part—finishing touches! Let your creativity (and taste buds) guide you. You can:

  • Fill them with jam or Nutella

  • Drizzle with syrup or chocolate glaze

  • Simply dust with powdered sugar

The decoration options are endless, so feel free to make them your own. The most important thing is that you now have the perfect base: light, fluffy, and irresistibly delicious donuts.

My kids—who are usually tough critics when it comes to my baking—say these are even better than the ones they get from the store. They always argue over who gets the last one! Honestly, they never last more than two days in our house. My husband and I love them just as much!
